The Insanity of God. This book pours a bucket of cold water on our existential sleepy heads and reminds us of what really matters: God. If you have not read this book by Nip Ripken with Gregg Lewis, I highly recommend it. I recently listened to it on Audible.
The Insanity of God is about the world of persecution and how Christians around the globe put themselves at risk to stand up for their faith. The writing is engaging and piercing. It compels the reader to question the purpose of what we are doing and our addiction to comfort and the pursuit of more.
As a Christian leader, I submit to you, as I ask myself, to examine your faith and truly ask if you would be willing to give it all up for the Lord. That is our calling. The Word of God says, whoever loves a mother and father more than me (God), does not deserve me. Whoever loves a son or daughter more than me does not deserve me. Among many such stories, this book shares of a pastor who, on the eve of going to prison for his faith, told his wife and kids that if I hear from prison that if you were killed because you did not deny your faith, I will be one proud father. Stories like this send chills down my spine. Could I say that to my family?
My prayer is that we make our goal in life neither wealth, nor comfort, nor plenty, nor influence, nor high position. Rather, may we make our goal obedience to the voice of God.
