Dreaming: The Best Place to Start

One of the more peculiar habits I have, which I learned from a mentor, is to observe dedicated thinking time. Just as it was strange to me when I first heard the concept, it is strange to most when I tell them about it. What is thinking time? A scheduled time, not rushed, in which I think. Often what preempts thinking is dreaming.

But is dreaming the best place to start one’s thinking? I will answer that shortly. But first, for Christian leaders, if we stop to think and dream, does that align with good theology?

When dreaming is grounded in Biblical principles, guided by God’s will, and motivated by a desire to glorify God and serve others, it is perfectly sound. As we start our thinking, first we should pray: God, guide my thinking. Give me Your thoughts and guide me into Your will.

And so, is dreaming the best place to begin? Yes, absolutely! When we set a far away goal, when we connect with a dream that energizes us, then we have aimed our thoughts in the right direction and we’ve stirred the fire in our belly to get us there.

Honoring a time on our calendar to stop and think is like trying to find stillness in a rushing river—near impossible. We can do it. Find that time. Make that time. Ask God to fill it with God-sized dreams, to reveal His plans for your life.

How can I support you more as a Christian leader and entrepreneur?
