Start Small, Start Soon

The following four words are a powerful entrepreneurial principle: start small, start soon. If you follow them, you will accomplish much in life.

Many never start. They think, dream, and pontificate, but never pull the trigger. If you are thinking of creating a new ministry, a new business, a new business line, a new service—then do it. Start small, and start soon.

Many times we don’t start because we want to start big. It’s a big dream, and we want our grand strategic plan to be complete before we take the first step. Do you remember how Jeff Bezos started Amazon? In his garage.

If your dream is to open affordable elderly housing for example, could you begin by taking care of one elderly person?

The passage of time often means the death of ideas while they are still in their infancy.

When you start, even if it’s small, your mindset will shift. Instead of saying to others, “I plan to open a business,” now you say, “I have a new business.” That small shift in your thinking is a big life changer.

At TotalCare, when we started our mission clinic in Kenya in 2020, we started small. We learned and are still learning. Since we began, others with similar visions have joined us. Now we are in two more countries. We plan to take two mission trips this year to two different African countries. We have a system. We have leaders leading them. Our big growth is a result of starting small, and starting as soon as we could.

How can I support you more as a Christian leader and entrepreneur?
