Make a Worry List

Worry isn’t an emotion I struggle with much anymore. I used to, but God led me to a few principles that have helped me find success in this area. That being said, as a Christian leader and entrepreneur, there are times when I have so many things coming at me that I do feel worry, maybe even a sense of being overwhelmed. Here’s a technique I use that helps me when I get to that stage.

If you ever feel this way, I recommend you stop and make a list of what’s worrying you. It’s not meant to become an all encompassing to-do list, nor is it a list of what’s important or urgent. It’s simply a list of what’s bubbling up in your mind—what’s truly worrying you at that moment at a gut level. 

Once you have created a list, spend two to three minutes reflecting on each item. Often, a few concerns can be resolved right away.

Sometimes, when I make a worry list, it includes phone calls I’ve been dreading or emails I just don’t feel like writing. While those things can be knocked out quickly, others, like life or relationship issues, may take longer. Still, by putting them on the list, I make it easier to think about them objectively and predict my next steps.
