Citizens of Heaven

I write this in advance, anticipating that by today, a new US president has been elected. Some are no doubt elated that their candidate won the vote, while others in our country grieve. We are passionate people.

Emotions are high. Concerns are high. Why? Because we care about our country. But this is not our home. Philippians 3:20 tells us, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

As Christ-followers, we are citizens of heaven. Yes, we belong in an earthly country that we should respect and build. However, we must remember, and we often forget, that we belong to another kingdom. Our first loyalties are to that kingdom, the kingdom of God.

So regardless of how you feel after the election, as a believer in Christ Jesus, remember to align your thoughts to a Kingdom perspective. First, God is sovereign, and second, our citizenship is in heaven.
