Every human would like to have more. While we should neither worship money nor put it first, wealth for a Christ-follower should not be a dirty word. As long as God is first and foremost in our lives, then we are in the clear. So then, how do we expand our wealth?
As Christians, we should seek the face of God exponentially more than we seek His hand. We should live a life in service to Him always above a pursuit of money. Let’s also agree that every believer wants to give their family a good life, a safe life, a comfortable life, one in which you can go on vacations or send your child to a good school. Believers also desire to give healthy sums of money to their church and other Kingdom causes. So how do we increase our wealth?
Whether you have employment that pays well (like David did, being a King) or you are a good businessman (like Abraham), ask yourself the following about money and financial growth.
- What skill do you have that people would pay for? Do you have a skill that is marketable?
- What level of problems can you solve that people would pay money for? Elon Musk said that we get paid in proportion to the difficulty of the problems we solve. If you solve a big problem or challenge in one of my companies, I will not only promote you (if you meet the requirements), but I will pay you handsomely.
- What level of leadership can you provide? Most companies need great leaders. The better leadership you can provide, the more you can get paid. There are three levels of leadership, each earning progressively more. First, you can run a team or organization well. Second, you can solve big problems. Or third, you can accurately predict the next direction to go that will bring success.
- How much risk can you tolerate? Reward is usually proportionate to risk. No risk, no reward. High risk, high sacrifice, high service usually results in a substantial reward—financially and otherwise.
In general, there are three ways to make money.
- You can earn money in business by owning it or being employed by it. If you are employed by a company, the higher you rise, the more you can earn.
- You can buy and sell real estate at a profit.
- You can make money in the market. Ex: stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc.
As long as you seek God first, seeking wealth is not wrong. Simply, do it in a way that honors Him.
