Go Where You Are Celebrated, Not Tolerated

Do the people at work and at home celebrate you, or just tolerate you?

Leadership is a journey marked by challenges, growth, and often a reassessment of one’s environment. As Christian leaders, our calling is not only to lead but to thrive in our mission fields.

One crucial principle for thriving is to go where you are celebrated, not tolerated. This is not always easy to achieve, so let it begin with you: celebrate the people in your circle. If you cannot, remove them or remove yourself from their life.

When we are in a supportive environment, our gifts are multiplied and bring greater glory to God. On the other hand, remaining in environments where we are merely tolerated can stifle our potential and hinder our ministry. When we are celebrated, challenges become stepping stones. Transformative growth becomes possible because we are not simply tolerated.

Ultimately, our greatest accomplishment as leaders should be found in how we treat people and even in how we treat ourselves. Just as Jesus valued people above all else, we too must value people by uplifting them, and we should expect that sort of culture in the places where we work and minister. When we do, we honor God and fulfill our calling more effectively.

So, as you lead, seek spaces where you are celebrated and create that environment for those you work with. Invest your God-given talents in communities that recognize and rejoice in your presence. This is not only wise, but a profound way to honor God’s calling in your life. And when you extend the same spirit of celebration of others, you honor God in them.
