As a Christian leader, I hope being a vessel in God’s hands is your ultimate goal in life, what fires up your soul.
It is so easy to be seduced by the world, especially as one matures as a leader. I remember early in my journey, as I started learning and honing my leadership skills, I began seeing astounding results. People responded positively and desired to come along when I demonstrated that I cared for them and that we were able to go to exciting places together. Slowly, I started worshiping leadership. Don’t make my mistake. No more. Now, I worship God. I desire God. I want to live for God.
I love King David. The guy was a super successful king, a leader. King David’s life was focused on excelling in leadership, but his heart was infinitely more focused on seeking God. David said, One thing I ask of the Lord and that I will seek (I love this concept of seeking), to dwell in the house of the Lord (in the presence of God) all the days of my life (and now listen to this), to gaze at His beauty and inquire in His temple. (Psalm 27:4)
Gaze at His beauty? These are the words of a person in love. And maybe that’s why God Himself calls David a man after his own heart. (I Samuel 13:14)
Lord, may You help me and the leader reading these words today to fall more deeply in love with You, and may Your love fire up our souls.
