What is Your Life Verse? Here is Mine.

A while back, a friend asked me, “What is your life verse”? I never knew I was supposed to have a Bible verse to call my life verse. There is certainly nowhere in the Bible that says we should. But I like the idea.

Could there be only one Bible verse that summarizes everything for us?

When Jesus was asked, “what is the greatest commandment,” He gave them the answer: “to love the Lord your God with all your heart…”

So I started making a list of potential verses that would summarize what I want the foundation of my life to be. Here are some of the finalists:

•“Set your mind on things above, not on things on earth.” Colossians 3:2 ESV
•“One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…” Psalm 27:4

But the one verse that, at least for now, is ‘the one’ is what Solomn said at the end of his beautiful writing in Ecclesiastes. After he had become one of the richest and wisest people on earth, after he had determined that everything is vanity, and after he concluded that there is a season for everything and there is nothing new under the sun, he resolved that the point of life is to:
Fear the Lord and keep His commandments.
To fear God means to honor God.
This is my life verse. What is yours?
