Make Today COUNT!

Many diaries from famous expeditions list events as they happened each day ? for example:

Day 1😕 Arrived at base camp.
Day 2: ?Climbed to 20,000 feet?
Day 9:? Reached summit!

Each day matters greatly!? Each day counts!

This is Day 13,640 for me ? on earth?(I am 37 years old, 4 months, and 2 days).

The psalmist writes, ?Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”? I want to encourage you to do that with me today?literally.? I recently did just that after reading the book 20,000 Days and Counting by Robert Smith, and it has given me a new perspective on the value of each day.

I think of several great people who marked history and died around my age.? ?And that gives me pause!

Mozart lived 13,097 days. (2 yrs younger than me)
Martin Luther King Jr. lived 14,325 days. (2 years older than me)
Jesus lived 12,230 days. (4 years younger than me)

What have you done with the days of your life? ?What do you plan to do with the rest of them?

And how will you spend today?

What?s the number?

Here are some reference points:

  • One year = 365 days
  • 3 years = 1,097 days
  • 5 years = 1,827 days
  • 10 years = 3,653 days
  • 20 years = 7,306 days
  • 30 years = 10,958 days
  • 40 years = 14,611 days
  • 50 years = 18,264 days
  • 60 years = 21,916 days
  • 70 years = 25,569 days
  • 80 years = 29,221 days
  • 90 years = 32,84 days
  • 100 years = 36,526 days

In the US 1 in 6,000 people reach the age of a 100 (only 0.0173%).

So for me this is day 13,640.? This could be my last.? The count could stop here!? Or if it?s God?s will for me to stay alive, best case scenario I will live to a generous 100 years old – 36,526 days.

Either way?my days are numbered! ?(And yours are as well!) ?Make each day count!

Bottom line?? Today matters!

So, if this idea connects with you, start each day by ?numbering it.?? (I put my number daily on my computer calendar) ? and start the day with a humble prayer,

Here was mine today…

Today is day 13,640 for me on earth.
Lord, thank you for giving me one extra day.
Help me today to:
Abide with You
Focus on my heavenly home
Love others
Stay humble
Hold captive my thoughts
Veer away from sin
Dare greatly
Act boldly
And lead for the sake of others

This day is one whole day of your great journey, your earthly voyage ? your destiny.

Make each day count!
